America's Heritage

Understanding how American democracy developed requires knowing a few very interesting pieces of American history.
Some of the more interesting aspects are

  • the toll of having to tame a wilderness
  • the character of the Americans
  • the attitude of England's Parliament to colonial commerce, its regulation and taxation. It started as one thing and developed into another.
    • a few key acts of Parliament
  • the role of religion and religious freedom - there are a couple of interesting surprises here.
  • the generous reliance on local government allowed American colonies by the English - before 1760.

This portal is the place to assign categories and pages that present and discuss the historica shaping of the United States and .
