Economic Freedom

Ask yourself . . if you had to choose between one and the other - between political freedom and economic freedom - which would you choose? Maybe not all, but most would choose economic freedom because it rules more of our lives and provides our living. But this is not a real choice because one cannot choose to have political freedom and forego economic freedom. Many people see political freedom and economic freedom as unrelated - believing that individual freedom is a political problem and material welfare an economic problem. And that therefore, being unconnected, any economic arrangement can be coupled with any political arrangement.
On the other hand, many (CW sponsors among them) see freedom of economic transaction and arrangement as part of, and fundamental to individual freedom. Further, that economic freedom is essential to political freedom - that political freedom cannot exist in the absence of economic freedom. At least we cannot point to an example in history of political freedom in the absence of economic freedom.
