Protecting the legitimate interests of all--not just the powerful--is fundamental to good government. A story from history brings that into focus. Magna Carta (in the year 1215) was a milestone in establishing 'rule of law' when faced with arbitrary power. However, that alone was insufficient for delivering freedom to the working class. Feudalism persisted. The emancipation of labor that took place in England in the 14th and 15th centuries is one of the most significant developments in the emancipation of all and the evolution of government into a form suitable to a free people. We make much of Magna Carta (rightly), but the freeing of the serf from feudalism may have done more for freedom and more for the general welfare and happiness of the labor force in general. It certainly did more to improve the living standard of all.
With this preamble, lets ask "What kind of government do we want?"
